Ford Government Launches a Youth Sports Program

The City of London and Ford Government in collaboration with Adidas is going to launch a sports program dedicated to empower underprivileged youth and tackle drug abuse.

For Immediate Release: September 27, 2019

(London, Ontario). The city of London in collaboration with provincial government and Adidas will launch a new sports program on October 11, 2019 at London City Hall as a step to tackle drug abuse among youth. New sports facilities and gymnasiums will be built across the city as a part of this program. The date for the start of construction work will be announced on the day of launch. Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Adidas CEO Kasper Rørsted will inaugurate the program.

After the event, they both with Mayor Ed Holder will hold a joint press conference, wherein they will mention the budget, full detailed plan and logistics involved in the program.

Why: London in recent past has been struggling with increased drug abuse among youth. According to a report by London Free Press, London was sixth highest in opioid related hospitalizations across Canada in 2018. The step taken is to tackle the problem of drug abuse among youth by encouraging them to take sports and providing them with quality training.
