On Wednesday, Bill Taylor and George Kent testified on the first day of public hearings of Trump impeachment inquiry. They explained how Donald Trump abused his power and used foreign aid in return for a favor from Ukraine. Even though some startling revelations were made during the testimonies, it has made no impact on public opinion. Donald Trump’s policies, no doubt, have mostly been questionable and against public interest, but going through with the impeachment would be a lost cause for the Democrats.

Donald Trump is facing impeachment and is under scrutiny for a call he made to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, on July 25, 2019. It all started with a whistleblower who warned regarding the call and alleged Donald Trump of motivating a political investigation. According to Ann Flaherty, reporter for ABC News, Trump wanted Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, which would help in his re-election. Flaherty added that Trump also wanted Ukraine to prove a theory that their corrupt politicians tried to meddle with the 2016 elections in favour of Hillary Clinton.

The impeachment inquiry is in its early stage with first public hearings beginning on Wednesday in the Democratic controlled House of Representatives. The hearings are being held to find evidence against republican Donald Trump. If the investigating committee believes sufficient evidence has been found, the House will move to vote for impeachment, where a simple majority of 51% is required for it to pass. It is most likely that the Democratic controlled House will vote in favor of impeachment. A trial will then take place in the Republican controlled Senate. Both parties will present their motions and members of the Senate will vote on them. A two-third majority is required for the impeachment of the president. This is highly unlikely as the Senate is controlled by Republicans. If the impeachment of Trump, therefore, occurs in the House, the president is most likely to be acquitted in the Senate.

Paul Bedard of Washington Examiner, reported an increase in Donald Trump’s approval ratings, following the first day of hearing for the President’s impeachment inquiry. He reported “The Rasmussen Reports Daily Presidential Tracking Poll is showing an impeachment bump in approval ratings for President Trump.” This also proves that people are still loyal to Donald Trump and the Republican party and the impeachment has helped the president gain sympathy from the public. This will lead to the Democratic Party potentially facing another loss in the 2020 elections. The Only way out of this for the Democrats is to find substantial proof against the President, that will sway public opinion and force the Republicans to vote against their leader.

Donald Trump is one of the most hated Presidents in the history of the United States. There are several reasons for which he should be impeached, but leading the charge for that will back-fire for the Democrats because if Trump is acquitted in the Senate, he will end up gaining sympathy from his supporters. Defeating him, therefore, in the upcoming elections would get really hard, which is not ideal either for the United States or the world.
